November 5, 2013. Amincintesis day had finally arrived! BLake and I had been waiting for this day ever since we learned we were expecting rainbow #2. You may ask, why an amino!? For those who don't know, we delivered our firstborn son, Bentley, at 38 weeks still born with the cord wrapped three times around his neck.
Our OB doctors agreed to induce labored at 37 weeks pending amincintesis results with pregnancies since Bentley's birth. Chase was born 37 weeks and 1 day, and Miss Briella was scheduled to be born the day following our amino. Back to November 5, 2013...
Tuesday morning our alarms awoke us around 5am. I don't think I truly slept that night though because I was just so ready to go get the test done then nervous to await the results. A catch 22. But I knew one thing-- Blake and I just wanted her here safely! I had been 3cm and 50% effaced since the week previously. I was kinda surprised she hadn't arrived yet! And my hopes were that my amino would spark my labor.
8am...waiting in the dreaded waiting area. Taken back at about 8:15 where we all stood in the ultrasound room. We had DR K and his nurse, a trainee nurse, our ultrasound tech, Blake and myself. We were here! I couldn't quite believe it was all this time again. Dr K completed the amino and we were sent to the hospital to do monitoring for a few hours just to ensure all was well.
Can I just say that Tuesday was the original day I wanted to deliver because our wonderful midwife who delivered both our boys was working that day! So we head on over to meet her and see if amino had sparked anything...
We get all hooked up on monitors and nothing. No cramping. No contractions. I was so disappointed as I really wanted Miss Briella to be delivered by Susan. Well, after being monitored for two hours...Susan came in and told me that I could walk for an hour and she would check me to see if I had any progress. So, into the halls back and I went! We walked laps around labor and delivery for an hour, seemed like eternity! Then, at 12 noon she checked me and sure enough I was 4cm and she was able to strip my membranes. Susan had explained that it may or may not spark my labor. She's met people who walk around awhile that way and she explained that if my body was ready then it would more than likely work but still no time frame on how long.
We were still waiting for results, so she sent us home to walk and eat lunch. That's what we did. We went home
And played with Chase and headed to the mall. We walked a lap around and I began feeling more crampy. And, I was havin some spotting which began to freak me out. We left the mall and I was feeling a tad bit uncomfortable but still nothing unbearable. By the time we got home, I had some more spotting, so I went ahead and called my OB. Dr K felt more comfortable with me just going into hospital to get checked out. So very glad I did! Those a tad bit uncomfortable cramps that I was feeling was labor beginning! It was my pretty intense contractions showing up and I was 5cm.
I was being admitted! Briella had plans to come on her own regardless the amino results. We got settled an Susan had me walk for an hour so we walked until
6pm and she checked me again and I was 6cm and still contracting but I wasn't feeling them (although the monitor demonstrated otherwise)... So, she broke my water and sent me back into the hall to walk. So we walked for another 30 minutes or so, maybe an hour and then I was getting uncomfortable. Contractions were closer and I was ready for my epidural. Thank God the guy came when he did because had he waited 30 more minutes it would have been too late.
I got my epidural and of course they had to monitor me for a bit because my blood pressure gets super low. Like bad! Then, Susan checks me again when hes done epidural because the doctor was like I don't think it's going to be much longer based on the screen and my contractions.
I was 8cm! :) and we still didn't have results quite yet.... Susan explains that we should rest because it'll be baby time really soon. Blake's snoring in two minutes and I'm just nervously awaiting...when the nurse reads the results and informs us that the lungs based off the amino are not mature. Yes that's right and not only did they show not mature...the score given was low! Blake and I were so worried. In that moment, I thought something was gonna happen.
They called the nursery and had the special care doctor even come in while I delivered to make sure.
Well, in tbis time not only am I nervous about the results...I was ready to push. It was time. I said someone had better get Susan in here quick because I am going to start pushing. Susan came flying in within minutes and miss Briella was born after two pushes weighing 7lbs 19.5 inches with a head full of hair!! And her lungs were fine!
I don't trust those results anymore! Her lungs were fine. Her scores after birth was fine. She needed no assistance and she was fine! She was born at 11:55pm. She came on Susan's day. She knew that Susan is apart if our family so she needed to come when Susan was working :)
Lil Miss is doing well and we had a few obstacles with jaundice but she's perfect! And she's got a big brother in heaven and one on earth that's keeping a lookout for her! :) in love with our little family :)
